Chitting Potatoes

Chitting means encouraging the seed potatoes to sprout before planting out. You can do this about six weeks before you wish to plant them outside.

Each seed potato will have a rounded, blunt ends that has several 'eyes' Stand the tubers with this blunt end uppermost in trays or old egg boxes where they will get lots of natural light.

The potatoes will be ready for planting out when the shoots are approx. 1.5-2.5 cm long.
